Charles Darwin s Theory Of Inheritance Of Acquired...

Evolution has been a very debatable topic since the theory of evolution first evolved. By definition, evolution is â€Å"the process by which different kinds of living organism are believed to have developed from earlier forms during the history of the earth†, but there are many different types of â€Å"evolution† such as coevolution, divergent, parallel and convergent – all with different theories. Jean Baptiste Lamarck was a French naturalist who invented the theory of inheritance of acquired characteristics (aka. â€Å"soft inheritance†). This evolutionary theory described how the natural environment affected the way an animal used their body parts. The features used regularly or for survival are passed onto the creatures offspring, and the parts that weren’t used, weren’t. On the other hand, another English naturalist Charles Darwin established a theory of â€Å"natural selection†. A process in which creatures that survived in thei r environment would pass their genes through the generations, compared to the weaker species with a lower survival rate, who reproduce less offspring or none. An adaptation is a result of evolution. They can be structural (physical features), behavioural and physiological (special response e.g. snake producing venom). These adapted characteristics (or mutations) develop for a creature to survive in it’s environment better, which are then passed on to its offspring. The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic poem from ancient Mesopotamia and the poem was originally written on twelve clay tablets. An epic is a extended narrative poem centered on either a larger than life hero or a heroine that’s written in a dignified way. An epic usually has it where the hero is in search for either immortality, gods, or other supernatural creatures while delivering an impactful message. The Epic of Gilgamesh is called an epic because the poem has all of the characteristics of a traditional epic. The poem is about the adventures of King Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk, and the short lived yet powerful friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu. Gilgamesh and Enkidu’s friendship was very complex one, but their friendship was important†¦show more content†¦Enkidu doesn’t agree initially, but comes around and agrees to accompany Gilgamesh on the quest. The action of Enkidu agreeing to accompany Gilgamesh on a quest shows how much their friendship has p rogressed because he wanted to support Gilgamesh and help him out, which is a characteristic of a strong friendship. Once they arrived at the forest, they found Humbaba and killed him. Upon their return to Uruk, Ishtar, the goddess of sex and love, tells Gilgamesh that she wants to marry him. Gilgamesh declines her proposal because he did not feel the same way about her. Ishtar was furious about Gilgamesh declining her proposal, so she sent down the Bull of Heaven to kill Gilgamesh. Enkidu uses his knowledge of animals to kill the Bull of Heaven. The Bull of Heaven comes down and is killed by Enkidu. The action of Enkidu killing the Bull of Heaven shows how much he cares for his friend and that he doesn’t want any harm to come Gilgamesh’s way, which is another great characteristic that makes a strong friendship. When Enkidu killed the Bull of Heaven and cut down the cedar trees, the gods were not pleased with his actions. Enkidu was then sent to see the gods in council. They decided that based off of his actions that Enkidu must die. Enkidu’s death greatly impacted Gilgamesh and changed him. His death makes Gilgamesh experience emotions he hasn’t

In particular the researchers suggest that HR professionals can create programs that help facilitate open communication and enhance ethics by helping employees and management officials understand the effects non-ethical behavior may have on customers, shareholders and organizational productivity. The authors also suggest that ethics programs should be linked to all business units including finance, security and any legal organization components. I also believe that a solid ethics program will build loyalty but not just among employees. A company that has a reputable ethics program in place will also stand out among the competition. In an increasingly global marketplace it is vital that organizations take steps to ensure they conduct ethical business practices. Both of these articles are very relevant to the field of HRD. As companies continue to expand into an international marketplace, the media more and more is highlighting stories that feature unethical behavior. Such behavior tarnishes the reputation of companies and also harms employee’s chances for advancement and personal success. It is vital that human resource professionals take an active role in developing ethical systems within the organization. HR professionals are trained not only in ethical management but also to work with employees to form a bridge between managers and employees. HR professionals can help open the lines of communication, survey current employees and mangers to determine potential problems areas, and work with multiple business units synergistically to ensure all company objectives are met in as ethical a manner as possible. It’s not enough to simply â€Å"do† business. Companies that fail to uphold ethical standards will ultimately fail in the long term.
